Penney’s August web sales up 30%

August Internet sales at J.C. Penney Co. Inc. increased nearly 30% from web sales a year ago, the company reports, on top of a 35% year-to-year increase last August. Total store sales were up 3.7%, while comparable store sales were up 2.8%.

Total sales reached $1.57 billion in the month vs. $1.52 billion a year ago. For the first 30 weeks, total sales reached $9.67 billion, up 4.3% $9.27 billion a year ago. Penney does not break out a dollar figure for its web sales.
