Walmart.com is scaling the ranks of the 10 largest online shopping sites, reports Nielsen/NetRatings. The online store of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. ranked No. 3 among shopping sites in January, up from No. 7 a year ago. Walmart.com registered 23 million unique visitors in January, up 25% from 18.4 million in January last year. Walmart.com’s traffic was also the second fastest growing among the Top 10. Fastest was comparison shopping site NexTag.com, with 30% growth, taking monthly visitors to NexTag.com to 15.3 million.
Walmart.com has a long way to go, however, to catch the No. 1 and 2 sites, eBay.com and Amazon.com. The top shopping sites in January by unique visitors (which counts only once each shopper who came to a site, no matter how many time that shopper visited), with the year-earlier December number (in millions) and year-over-year growth were:

Total number of unique visitors to the Top 10 shopping sites in January was 92.4 million, up 4% from 88.5 million a year earlier.
Wal-Mart executive Brian Osborn, will speak at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition, June 4-7 in San Jose, June 5, 11:15-11:45 a.m., in a session entitled Wal-Mart: The Giant Uses the Web to Extend its Market Reach.
Perhaps it was the approach of Valentine’s Day that drove Limited Brands Inc., which counts Victoria’s Secret among its brands, to the top of consumer goods advertisers in Nielsen/NetRatings’ AdRelevance Index.
