Web sales growth topping 40% made 2006 super for SuperMediaStore.com
SuperMediaStore.com reports 40% sales growth for 2006. Key contributors to that growth were new products, lots of free shipping promotions and a 100% increase in search engine traffic. The web-only retailer reports $33 million in sales for 2006.
SuperMediaStore.com, No. 237 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, sells media duplication hardware, such as CD and DVD burners, and related supplies, including disks and printer ink and toner. Originally focused on the b2b space, the company now logs 80% of its business from consumers, says Kelly Chen, marketing manager.
Web traffic improvements result from a search engine technology upgrade done in-house, which also helped improve orders from search engines by 100%, Chen says. “We also updated our search function and greatly reduced our search page exit rate. It’s easier for people to find what they are looking for,” she says.
SuperMediaStore.com also began adding product-specific articles to the site last year, and will expand on such content in 2007. An in-house writer produces two articles a week.
SuperMediaStore.com sales also rode on a general price drop affecting duplication hardware. That is helping customers affordably store and package video and photo files onto personalized DVDs and CDs for a professional look. An online customer survey late last year revealed that most customers use the company’s products to back up music and video files, Chen says.
On SuperMediaStore.com’s agenda for 2007 is completion of its fourth new warehouse in five years and implementation of new order processing technology from Escalate Retail. The latter was expected to go live in April.
