Staples reports another year of strong web sales
Staples Inc. is reporting a 29% increase in e-commerce sales for 2006, while total sales rose by 13%.
For the year, Staples posted web sales of $4.9 billion, compared with e-commerce sales of $3.8 billion in 2005 and $3 billion in 2004. At the same time, Staples, No 3 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, posted net income of $973.6 million on total 2006 sales of $18.16 billion from net income of $948.9 million on total revenue of $16.07 billion in 2005.
“We drove strong top and bottom line growth, while investing in new ideas and making steady progress on the key initiatives that will continue to drive our business,” says Staples chairman and CEO Ron Sargent.
Overall the web accounted for 27% of total sales in 2006 vs. 24% in 2005.
