Buy reports strong holiday season

Buy.com Inc. continues its resurrection. The online retailer reported today that the number of orders it received during the holiday shopping season increased 35% to 806,000 over the number of orders it received during last year's holiday season. Traffic also increased over 33% compared to last year's holiday shopping season, with more than 130,000 shoppers visiting the site each day.

What Buy.com describes as its entertainment category--books, music, videos and games--led the growth, up 106% over last year, while consumer electronics sales were up 66%. Book sales were up fourfold over last year, while games were almost double the previous year, Buy.com reports.

"This has been a year of increasing momentum for Buy.com, and I believe that all of our moves in 2002--free shipping, reducing book prices, new categories, Buy Magazine--have enhanced our commitment to providing our customers with the best possible online shopping experience available. This holiday season was simply proof of that," said Robert Price, president for Buy.com.
