Target teams up with iTunes, Ticketmaster in multi-channel music offer

Target, in an exclusive deal, will offer co-branded gift cards this spring for purchases of digital music at iTunes and concert tickets at Ticketmaster, a spokeswoman for Ticketmaster says.

In addition to letting recipients purchase digital music downloads at Apple Inc.’s iTunes online music store and a general range of tickets at Ticketmaster.com, the cards are intended to support cross-promotions that iTunes and Ticketmaster are planning this year, the spokeswoman says.

Ticketmaster and iTunes have agreed to extend a cross-promotional program started last year that offered free music downloads from iTunes along with concert tickets purchased on Ticketmaster.com. The program also offered iTunes customers who purchased albums the opportunity to pre-order concert tickets for the same recording artists.

Target, No. 16 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, did not return a call for comment. Target operates about 1,500 stores in addition to Target.com, which is operates on an e-commerce platform provided by Amazon.com Inc. The gift cards will be available in select Target stores nationwide, but not on its web site, according to Ticketmaster.
