Systemax annual e-commerce sales reach $650 million

Having delayed filing its annual report with the Securities and Exchange Commission for accounting reasons, Systemax Inc. is finally breaking out its total and e-commerce sales for 2005.

For 2005, web sales for Systemax increased 26% while total sales rose by 9.2%. For the year, Systemax, which owns and operates TigerDirect.com and is No. 26 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites , posted e-commerce revenue of $650 million, compared with $515 million in 2004.

Total sales for the direct marketer of personal computer hardware, software and related merchandise rose to $2.1 billion from $1.9 billion in 2004. “The worldwide growth in active Internet users has made e-commerce a significant opportunity for sales growth,” Systemax says in its recently filed annual report. “The increase in our Internet sales enables us to leverage our advertising spending, allowing us to reduce our printed catalog costs while maintaining customer contact.”

Overall the web accounted for 31% of all sales in 2005 vs. 27.1% in 2004. Systemax sells more than 40,000 computer and computer accessories products to a base of 2 million customers.
