Puerto Rico Drugstore Chain Rolls Out Retail.net
Farmacias El Amal moves from contract to go-live in sixty days!
Salt Lake City, November 18, 2004 -- Tomax Corporation is pleased to announce the implementation of Retail.net at sixty store Farmacias El Amal, Puerto Rico`s largest pharmacy chain.
El Amal is a growing retail drugstore chain in Puerto Rico. With over 4 million citizens Puerto Rico is subject to competitive pressures from over 800, mostly independent, retail drugstores but also major chains like Walgreens and Wal-Mart. Tomax` Retail.net turned out to be just what the doctor ordered for Farmacias El Amal.
El Amal selected Retail.net based on its robust functionality, centralized architecture and network resiliency. The Retail.net architecture provides El Amal the ability to support constant change, innovation and a very rapid initial implementation. Traditionally retail systems require the deployment of in-store servers to support software and databases. Retail.net deploys centrally and all aspects of in-store functionality are managed using thin-client devices over a wide area network. This functionality includes point-of-sale, inventory management, replenishment and receiving. As a result El Amal will enjoy dramatic reductions in IT lifecycle costs while meeting its objectives of greater convenience, speed and safety from its POS and supporting systems.
"Effective communication was very critical in being able to go live in such a compressed time frame." states El Amal CIO, Sultan Yassin. "The Tomax Implementation Services team did a good job of working closely with us to make sure the project did not veer off course. However, the task would not have been possible were it not for the flexibility and streamlined architecture of the Tomax Retail.net solution. Retail.net met over 90% of our requirements out of the box and its network based architecture made deployment both in the store and at HQ short, sweet and problem free. It`s safe to say this feat would not have been possible with a solution that was architected differently."
Indeed, this flexibility was taken to task in this project. Sixty days was all the time needed to deploy Retail.net to El Amal`s corporate offices and pilot site. This was not only a record time for a Tomax implementation, El Amal was able to immediately leverage Retail.net to add inventory, receiving and ordering capabilities in addition to point-of-sale functions. After a period of testing and refinement of the pilot stores a chain-wide rollout of Retail.net began in mid August and the entire chain of sixty stores was operational by mid October!
"This is probably as fast an implementation as we have ever seen in the retail world. El Amal should be proud of their disciplined approach and their commitment to leveraging the out of the box functionality of Retail.net," states Steve Shubella, Senior Vice President of Services for Tomax.
Farmacias El Amal is a family owned drugstore chain based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. With over sixty pharmacies around the island, El Amal is Puerto Rico`s largest pharmacy operator.
