Staples stores printing million promo signs a week on web-based system
In a sign of the times, employees at Staples Inc. stores are printing out promotional signs and shelf-edge labels with the few clicks of a browser connected to the corporate intranet and in-store printers. Using the Web dSignShop system from AccessVia, store employees are printing out as many as 2 million signs a week.
The system enables the Staples home office to maintain control of sign layouts and item content, ensuring design consistency and accuracy across all stores. The web-based system is expected to be deployed in 1,100 stores this month.
"Staples depends on the web as an easy and cost-effective way to rapidly deploy critical applications to the stores," said Debra Haughton, senior project manager at Staples. "The stores are thrilled about the functionality that we’ve given them to make their jobs easier."
The signs are sorted after printing according to corporate planograms also accessed over the intranet. Store employees use browser-based handheld devices in the aisles to request and print shelf labels and single-item or multiple-item promotional signs.
