7-Eleven deploys web-based system to manage 10,000 suppliers
With nearly 6,000 convenience stores in the U.S. and Canada and 10,000 suppliers, 7-Eleven Inc. is going to the web to improve the way it communicates with suppliers that serve its North American stores. By deploying web-based procurement and sourcing applications from Oracle Corp.`s E-Business Suite, the retailer says it will reduce manual data entry and improve its ability to manage its supply chain.
The web-based system is expected to cut the costs of procurement transactions and inventory containment, but it will also help 7-Eleven better analyze supplier performance, said 7-Eleven CIO Keith Morrow.
The Oracle iProcurement application is designed to enable 7-Eleven employees to process purchase orders, requests for quotes and other business documents more efficiently and more accurately, assuring that goods are delivered quickly and on-time. The Oracle Sourcing application is designed to help 7-Eleven find the lowest-cost suppliers as well as track price changes and other functions related to vendor performance. Meanwhile, all of the retailer`s North American suppliers will be directly connected to 7-Eleven through its Oracle iSupplier Portal, which will provide the suppliers with access to information on inventory levels and shipping requirements.
7-Eleven said it chose the Oracle suite for its ease of implementation. "To keep pace and control costs associated with our ongoing corporate expansion, as well as improve critical supplier relationships, we needed an out-of-the-box solution that required minimal customization and maintenance," Morrow said.
