Security stuck at top of consumers’ worries about online shopping

Lots of consumers are worrying about online security of their credit card information, says the quarterly iCustomer Observer consumer survey from researchers Valentine Radford.

Valentine Radford asked consumers, "Which of the following issues are you most worried about when making Internet purchases?" Here’s how they responded:
--49% said they were concerned about security, defined by Valentine Radford as an unauthorized person getting their credit card information
--19% said they feared their personal information would be shared with others
--9% said they feared for their privacy in that the company they were buying from collects too much personal information
--5% said they feared their computers would be infected with viruses
--18% said none of the above worried them; the Internet is safe and secure for day-to-day purchasing.

Valentine Radford says credit card security has always been the top concern with iCustomer respondents, stabilizing at around 50% in the last two quarterly surveys.
