Online consumer spending rises 21% for week ending May 9
Online retail spending for the week ending May 9 rose 21% to $1.17 billion, up from $969 million in the comparable week a year ago, comScore Networks Inc. reports. Online retail spending has hit $1 billion or more every week this year.
Total retail sales for the week ending May 8 fell by 2.2% from the corresponding week a year ago, ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate reports. ShopperTrak attributed the decline to high fuel prices, which sliced into consumers’ discretionary spending.
Online travel spending rose 27% for the week ending May 9, to $1.1 billion from $963 million in the comparable week a year ago, comScore reports.
