Amazon extends free delivery and lower CD prices to the U.K.
Free delivery has been such a successful driver of U.S. sales at Amazon.com that the company has started offering free shipping to U.K. customers. Amazon.co.uk has rolled out Free Super Saver Delivery, a free shipping option on orders over £39. Amazon says the offer is not a seasonal promotion, but available year-round.
At the same time, Amazon announced it is selling CDs as low as £8.49.
Amazon tested free shipping during the holiday shopping period. It characterized results of that as “overwhelmingly positive.”
Amazon attributes its 26% increase in sales last year to free shipping and lower prices. Besides Amazon.co.uk, Amazon operates four international web sites: Amazon.fr; Amazon.de; Amazon.co.jp and Amazon.ca.
