New search solution delivers double-digit conversion increase at Overstock

Overstock.com has switched search technology providers, launching earlier this month with Endeca’s InFront technology after using search technology from a competing provider only since last August. According to Overstock, Endeca’s technology, which now is powering search, navigation and merchandising on the site, produced a double-digit increase in both conversion rates and revenue per session over a few weeks in a head-to-head comparison with other alternatives.

“Search is absolutely critical to our business,” says Overstock president Patrick Byrne. “It's about results, both for customers and for our business. Endeca has proven its ability to deliver on both counts, connecting customers to products and delivering an immediate boost in conversion rates.”

Another factor in Overstock’s decision to switch providers was what Endeca says is “significantly reduced maintenance costs associated with Endeca Infront," due to the fact that it’s an out-of-the-box solution that doesn’t require extensive custom configuration. “Overstock.com should realize a lower total cost of ownership to complement increased sales,” Endeca says.
