E-sales hit another billion-dollar week in mid May, up 13% from year ago
Online retail sales the week ending May 16 experienced their slowest year-over-year growth since the last week in January, up 13% vs. the same week a year ago, but still exceeded $1 billion, keeping the string of billion-dollar-plus weeks unbroken so far this year, comScore Networks Inc. reports. Online sales reached $1.08 billion, up from $962 million a year ago.
By contrast, total retail sales for the week ending May 15 were down 8.3% from the same week a year ago, reports ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate. ShopperTrak said higher fuel process appeared to be keeping consumers at home.
As the summer travel season approached, online travel sales for the week ending May 16 were up 38% from the same week a year ago, reaching $1.03 billion, comScore reports.
