San Francisco-based Shopping.com is adding a feature it calls Smart Buy to product comparison listings on its site. Smart Buy will highlight in the comparison listings the retailer that offers the lowest price on an in-stock, new item and that rates as a Trusted Store at Shopping.com. The Smart Buy will be highlighted with a different background color, as well as the Smart Buy logo next to the price, to make it stand out on the page.
Shopping.com awards its Trusted Store status to retailers that receive positive customer-based reviews and ratings of at least 4.1 out of 5, resolve customer service complaints quickly and fairly, include accurate tax and shipping information if the user has provided a ZIP code, uses Shopping.com surveys on checkout pages to collect consumer feedback, provides basic store information including store address and phone number and has been listed on Shopping.com for at least three months
Shopping.com says stores cannot choose or bid for Smart Buy status. The Trusted Store with the lowest price is designated the Smart Buy, and there can only be one Smart Buy for a selected product.
Smart Buy will be available in hard goods categories such as Computers, Software, Office Supplies and Consumer Electronics but not in soft goods categories such as Clothing, Furniture, Jewelry and Watches since few stores sell identical items, Shopping.com says.
