Food Lion turns to the web for workforce management

Challenging economic times call for cutting labor costs while also increasing customer service. Food Lion LLC says that`s why it`s deploying a web-based workforce management system in more than 1,200 food stores.

The web-based Timera Enterprise Workforce Management system from Timera Inc. is designed to streamline workforce forecasting and scheduling, helping managers to assure that the appropriate number of employees are scheduled at all times for particular tasks in each store, such as having enough cashiers during peak shopping periods, Timera said.

The system also includes data reporting capabilities that provide managers with information on how well tasks are being performed, so that managers can further adjust how they schedule workers.

In addition, managers can enter into the system information on employee availability, including requests for time off, to have that information incorporated into the system`s scheduling function.
