e-Book sales grow 28% in Q1
Sales of e-books increased 28% in the first quarter from Q1 a year ago to $3.2 million from $2.5 million, trade group Open eBook Forum reported today at the Book Expo America Conference in Chicago. Unit sales were up 46% to 421,955 from 288,440.
The Open eBook Forum defines an e-book as electronically published content that consumers download from a web site to an electronic reading device, Nick Bogaty, director of the forum, tells InternetRetailer.com.
The best-selling e-books reflect the best-selling hard copy books: The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown was No. 1 in May. No. 2 was Kevin Ryan’s Van Helsing and No. 3 was Brown’s Angels & Demons.
The forum’s sales data are compiled from sales information submitted by 24 leading e-book publishers and retailers. “E-books represent the fastest growing segment of the publishing industry,” said Open eBook Forum president Steve Potash.
