MarineMax launches web platform to speed up supply chain
MarineMax, a multi-channel recreational boat and accessories retailer, has deployed an IBM web-based platform that integrates its sales channels and provides real-time order-entry and inventory tracking from its new retail web site, BoatingGearCenter.com.
"We are now able to better serve our customers and respond faster to the marketplace trends, while reducing costs due to inventory inefficiencies," said vice president of information technology Brett McGill. "We expect to increase our supply chain efficiencies by 25%, in addition to saving hundreds of hours in development time."
Using IBM’s Websphere Commerce-Express platform, MarineMax has connected its retail web site directly to its key distributor, Brunswick Boat Group, providing for real-time order entry and inventory tracking from BoatingGearCenter.com. Until now, MarineMax customers could research and purchase boating accessories only at one of the retailer’s 71 stores or its partner web sites.
The IBM system will also allow MarineMax to manage transactions from all customer touch points, including retail showrooms, catalog and web site, the retailer said.
MarineMax will also install a combination of IBM software and hardware, including Tivoli Storage Manager.
