Reflecting a growing shift in sales from its call center to the Internet, mattress and bedding accessory retailer 1-800-Mattress has changed its name to 1800mattress.com, it says. Web sales now account for about 8% of sales.
“During our 30 years in business, we have seen a tremendous shift from bricks to clicks,” says Napoleon Barragan, founder and CEO. “Along the way, we grew from Dial-A-Mattress with different area codes to 1-800-Mattress with the advent of 800 numbers. Today, the Internet is the fastest growing segment of our business.”
1800Mattress.com is No. 234 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
Five years ago, Internet sales represented about 2.5% of annual company revenue, compared with 7% or 8% today, a spokesman says. The 1-800-Mattress site has about 18,000 unique visitors per day.
