Online sales growth keeps to its double-digit ways

Online retail sales for the week ending Feb. 2 were up 30% to $987 million from $761 million a year ago, comScore Networks Inc. reports. By comparison, total retail sales for the week were up 7.6% vs. last year, ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate reports. It was the sixth consecutive week of sales growth vs. year-earlier figures, ShopperTrak reports.

Online travel spending for the week grew 39% to $773 million, comScore reports.

For January, online retail sales were up 14% to $4.05 billion from $3.55 billion in January 2002, comScore reports. Travel spending for the month was up 42% to $3.29 billion from $2.32 billion.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, Nielsen/NetRatings reports that traffic to 1-800-flowers.com grew 25% the week ending Feb. 2 to 233,000 unique visitors. More than 22% must be planning to procrastinate, visiting the last-minute options page, Nielsen/NetRatings reports.
