Online retail spending up 30% year-to-year in comScore’s latest report

Online retail spending grew 30% for the week ending Feb. 9, comScore Networks Inc. reports. Shoppers spent $930 million online that week vs. $175 million for the same week a year ago.

The growth in online spending was part of a trend toward strong retail spending by consumers. ShopperTrak RTC’s National Retailer Sales Estimate reports that total retail spending for that week grew 4%vs. the same week last year. That growth represented the seventh consecutive week of year-over-year growth, “an unusually strong performance for this time of year,” ShopperTrak says.

Online travel spending for that week grew 36% to $743 million from $547 million in the same week a year ago, comScore says.
