Mother’s Day helps drive up visits 142% to jewelry site Ashford.com


Mother’s Day traffic helped to increase the number of unique visitors at jewelry retailer Ashford.com by 142% from April to May, comScore Networks Inc. reports. Also showing strong growth in number of visitors were BlueNile.com, at 93%, and Fossil.com, at 44%.

Another strong retail category for Mother’s Day, perfume, led to 40% growth in the number of unique visitors at Sephora.com, 26% growth at FragranceNet.com and 10% at Avon.com, comScore says.

Among online retail product categories, movies led in visitation growth, at 43%, followed by hobbies, lifestyle and genealogy, at 27%; jewelry, luxury goods and accessories, at 13%; and fragrances and cosmetics, at 9%.

Among web sites in the top 250 sites in number of visitors, 1-800-Flowers.com led in growth of the number of unique visitors, climbing 54% to 2.6 million in May from 1.7 million in April. 1-800-Flowers is ranked 249 overall in number of visitors.

Second in terms of visitation growth among the top 250 web sites was Upromise.com, which grew 49% to 4 million from 2.7 million and is ranked 167 overall. Other sites among the fastest growing in terms of visitation are Hotels.com, which grew 34% to 9.5 million visitors form 7.1 million; and BeMusic, which grew 17% to 5.6 million from 4.8 million.

The top five sites in terms of overall visitation in May were Yahoo Sites, 112.9 million unique visitors; Time Warner Network, 111.9 million; MSN-Microsoft Sites, 110.9 million; Google Sites, 66.5 million; and eBay, 59.7 million.
