Weekly online retail spending bounces above $1 billion again

Online consumer retail spending moved above the $1 billion mark for the week ending June 13, marking a return to the $1 billion-a-week level since slipping below that mark for two weeks. Sales had exceeded $1 billion in all other weeks this year.

For the week ending June 13, online retail sales grew 12% to $1.02 billion from $908 million for the corresponding week a year ago, reports comScore Networks Inc.

Total retail sales for the week ending June 12 were up 6.2% from the same week a year ago, according to ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate. ShopperTrak speculated that people who stayed home from work on June 11, the day of Ronald Reagan’s memorial service, went shopping. Sales were significant for a Friday, ShopperTrak said.
