REI names execs from Dell, FAO Schwarz to its board


Recreational Equipment Inc. has named to its board of directors John Hamlin, senior vice president of global online business and global brand operations at Dell Inc., and Edward Schmultz, CEO of FAO Schwarz Inc. REI is No. 74 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

Hamlin of Austin, Texas, is serving his first term on the REI board. With 20 years of business experience, he currently serves as senior vice president at Dell Inc. of its Global Online Business and Global Brand. He plans to leave Dell this spring to serve as president and managing partner of the Bozeman Limited Partnership, a private equity firm located in Austin, TX. Additionally, he is a corporate board member of Safeco Insurance and Dell Financial Services.

Schmults, a 16-year veteran of the retail industry, is also serving his first term on the REI board. Prior to FAO Schwarz, he served in executive positions at Patagonia and Moonstone Mountain Equipment. He also spent time earlier in his career at investment banker Goldman Sachs.

Brad Brown, REI’s vice president of e-commerce and web strategies, is speaking at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition, June 4-7 in San Jose, in a session entitled Why Retail Stores Can`t Put Up Web Stores and Forget Them.
