No end in sight: eBay drop-off stores continue to expand

Among the more than 20 new companies accepting items for listing on eBay, several have announced expansion plans in the past two months.

EBay drop-off stores let consumers drop off items to be listed on eBay.com. The stores handle all listing, shipping and payment settlements with buyers, then forward a check to the seller for the final selling price minus commissions and listing fees.

NuMarkets LLC, based in Etowah, TN, is opening at least six stores this month, including five in northern Georgia and one in Raleigh, NC, with three more on the way in North Carolina and others planned in the southeast and the northeast regions of the U.S., says president and CEO Russ Grove.

QuickDrop International, Carson City, NV, plans to open 17 stores in 12 counties in Pennsylvania, including York and Philadelphia, says president Murray Mead. QuickDrop currently has 10 stores open in seven states and has franchise contracts to open more than 300 stores in the U.S. and 95 internationally.

AuctionCoast.com, based in Los Angeles, opened its first store last month, in Hollywood, CA. The Winning Bid recently opened one store in Lebanon, TN, and plans to open several more over the next few years.

AuctionDrop, which recently signed a deal with UPS to accept eBay items at 3,400 UPS Stores, has opened a new 105,000-square-foot processing center in California, replacing a 15,000-square-foot facility. UPS ships items accepted at its stores to AuctionDrop’s processing center, then also handles the final shipment to buyers.
