Internet sales at Sharper Image Corp. grew 39% in the first five months of the year, reaching $40.5 million from $29 million a year ago, the company reports. Total company sales increased 29% to $254.9 million from $198.4 million. The web accounted for 15.9% of sales this year vs. 14.6% a year ago.
Total store sales increased 22% to $142.3 million from $116.2 million in the prior year. Comparable store sales increased 5%. Combined catalog/direct marketing sales increased 36% to $72.2 million from last year's $53.2 million.
June’s Internet sales at Sharper Image, No. 62 in Internet Reatiler's Top 300 Guide to online retailers, were up 17% to $7 million from $6 million. June companywide sales grew 23% to $50.8 million from $41.2 million in June last year. Total store sales increased 18% to $30.6 million from last June's $25.9 million. Comparable store sales increased 2%. Combined catalog/direct marketing sales increased 42% to $13.3 million from last June's $9.3 million.
