Endeca Signs Over 40 Major North American and European Retailers in 2004
Premier Commerce Search, Navigation and Dynamic Merchandising Solution Now Used By More Retailers Than All Competing Solutions Combined
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. AND NEW YORK, January 18, 2005 - Endeca, the leading provider of Guided Navigation*, Search and Analysis solutions, today announced the signing of 40 new European and North American retail customers during 2004. The new customers include US-based retail giants like Circuit City, The Discovery Store, Hallmark, The Home Depot, Kmart, Overstock.com, PETCO, TJ Maxx, Walgreens, and Walmart.com; marquee UK retailers like Comet, Littlewoods and Tesco; and popular European retailers Bol.com and Wehkamp. All are using the market-leading Endeca InFront* search, Guided Navigation and merchandising platform to dramatically boost average order value, customer satisfaction, and conversion rates. Endeca InFront now powers more leading retailers than all competing solutions combined.
According to the June 2004 State of Retailing Online 7.0 report by Forrester Research and Shop.org (the National Retail Federation`s association of online retailers), 71 percent of online retailers listed overhauling site search among their top tactics for improving conversion rates, with 96 percent of those retailers reporting those efforts as effective or very effective. But the high adoption rate of Endeca InFront versus competing products and homegrown solutions is largely due to two key differentiators:
1) Endeca`s customers continually report the highest increases
in sales when they switch to InFront - a statement that speaks to the engine`s ability to deliver far more than just the most accurate product and catalog search results
2) More than just great technology, the InFront product is an
ongoing reflection of the retail experience and best practices learned from working daily with the world`s most successful and savvy retailers
For example, Denver, Colorado-based eToys Direct, which owns eToys (www.etoys.com) and the My Twinn doll company (www.mytwinn.com) and operates KBtoys.com (www.kbtoys.com) under a long-term licensing agreement, uses Endeca InFront to power search, as well as the majority of site navigation and contextual promotions - or dynamic merchandising. Research has shown that 20 percent of online shoppers use a Web site`s search engine. In contrast, the combination of Endeca`s search and Guided Navigation drove 75 percent of the results viewed on the company`s eToys web site between November 15, 2004 and January 6, 2005. In addition, eToys takes advantage of Endeca`s dynamic merchandising capabilities to provide a greater number of contextual promotions and build better customer awareness of ALL special offers, many of which used to be buried before the successful deployment of Endeca InFront.
"We used to manually merchandise different areas of our sites, especially our age, brand, category and character boutiques. We spent a great deal of time removing empty links and pulling out-of-stock items from those boutiques -- a maintenance nightmare during holiday season," said Chris Cummings, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for eToys Direct, Inc. "With Endeca, we are able to focus on delivering an outstanding customer experience by helping customers find exactly what they want from our selection of more than 8,000 toys and video games."
"Our marquee and cutting-edge retail customers represent Endeca`s biggest asset in this hotly contested and dynamic market," said Rich Stendardo, Retail Solutions Manager at Endeca. "Our daily work with the world`s most successful and savvy retailers gives Endeca a tremendous advantage over the competition. Our retail customers` business needs and collective best practices are continuously worked back into our product - giving Endeca unrivaled expertise and ensuring that Endeca InFront continues to be the best solution for multi-channel retail."
