Enhancements Across Wavelink Mobile Middleware Solutions to Provide Customers With New Levels of Visibility, Control and Productivity for Their Mobile Business Applications
NEW YORK -- Jan. 17, 2005 -- Wavelink Corporation, a leading provider of mobile infrastructure management software for the enterprise, today announced a major new release, Version 5.0, of its wireless terminal emulation software, Wavelink Emulators(TM). The company also introduced enhancements to its market-leading mobile application development platform, Wavelink Studio(TM). Wavelink Emulators Version 5.0 and the new enhancements to Wavelink Studio deliver improved visibility, control and productivity to mobile business applications. These advances benefit Wavelink`s large install base of customers, including large retail, manufacturing and logistics companies that rely on Wavelink`s solutions to provide the highest levels of availability and productivity across their mobile application environments.
Favored by the retail, logistics and manufacturing industries, Wavelink`s mobile middleware products currently run in thousands of mission-critical supply chain environments. Ten of the top 12 retailers in North America, and more than 80 percent of the top retailers in the UK currently use Wavelink`s mobile middleware solutions. Wavelink Emulators extend mission-critical business applications from legacy back-office mainframe and midrange computer systems to the front lines of the mobile workplace for companies that have high volumes of goods, assets, and business information. Wavelink Studio enables developers to quickly, easily and cost-effectively build, deploy and manage wireless applications commonly used in supply chain management, warehouse management, retail store systems, delivery and field force automation environments.
"We work with a large number of retailers who have saved valuable time and money using our applications combined with Wavelink`s middleware solutions as the mobile platform," said Peter Baskin, VP of product marketing for Retek, a leading ERP software provider for Retail. "With Wavelink`s new enhancements, our customers will improve the productivity of their mobile workforce and IT staff, and the reliability of the applications and devices they use. With Wavelink, our retail customers can spend less time supporting, and more time improving their businesses."
New capabilities in Version 5.0 of Wavelink Emulators include:
-- New levels of visibility and control over application performance
Wavelink`s customers will now be able to take remote control of a host application session on a targeted mobile device to diagnose, troubleshoot and correct issues impacting mobile users. This capability comes integrated when Wavelink Emulators are used with Wavelink Avalanche for mobile application and device management.
-- Newly integrated connection management and failover support for applications
These enhancements provide customers with fully integrated connection management capabilities that can be co-located on the host application server, or deployed as a separate server, thereby avoiding dropped connections and lost productivity typically caused by poor coverage.
Customers also receive connection failover support capabilities, so that mobile application sessions relying on the connection server never fail by seamlessly reconnecting to a session through either a back-up connection server or directly to the host. Wavelink is the only company to provide this integrated level of failover support for connections between the mobile application and host system.
-- Support for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for highly secure connections to host applications
Customers are ensured industry-standard and end-to-end encryption for the duration of their wireless session with Wavelink`s SSL support implementation now available in the Wavelink Emulation client and Wavelink`s integrated SSL server.
Additional enhancements of Wavelink mobile middleware solutions include:
-- The availability of RFID development tools to integrate backend systems with RFID infrastructure and data
Wavelink`s mobile middleware solutions now allow retail customers to transition from existing data collection and barcode applications in mobile environments to next-generation RFID technology. Wavelink is the only provider of RFID programming tools that interoperates across a wide range of platforms from multiple vendors. This enables developers to write their application once and run it across many RFID-enabled systems. RFID support is available in both Wavelink Emulators and Wavelink Studio.
"Mobile productivity in the supply chain is critical -- especially in the retail and logistics industries where large volumes of information, goods and services that are vital to business operations are being exchanged every day," said Dan Park, network and software director for Intermec. "With Wavelink`s newest releases, organizations now get powerful new capabilities on top of an already proven platform."
"The retail industry -- one of Wavelink`s largest industry segments -- continues to be on the leading edge in their use of wireless technology for improving business efficiency," said David Bullis, CEO and president, Wavelink Corporation. "Our latest enhancements are designed to give our customers even more insight and control into the mobile applications that have become so essential to their business and extended supply chain."
