New Michael Crichton E-Book PREY
Available From PerfectBound Websites In US, UK, Canada And Australia
New York, NY (December 2, 2002) - HarperCollins Publishers today announced the launch of four PerfectBound e-book stores serving the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. The newly designed perfectbound.com will continue to feature detailed information about e-books from PerfectBound, HarperCollins` global e-book imprint, and will now allow visitors to purchase PerfectBound e-books directly from the site.
Visitors to perfectbound.com can purchase and download PerfectBound e-books in Adobe, Microsoft, and Palm e-book formats. In addition, they can download free e-book excerpts, take advantage of special offers and discounts, and sign up to receive the monthly PerfectBound newsletter. The PerfectBound e-book stores are powered by MIDAS® Technology from OverDrive.
perfectbound.com is currently featuring PREY, the new thriller from bestselling author Michael Crichton. The e-book edition of PREY contains extensive special features not available in other editions, including an interview with the author and excerpts from his many novels and nonfiction works, highlighting Michael Crichton`s 30-plus years of making complex concepts understandable and entertaining. Other e-books featured on the site include:
-- The Wailing Wind: Tony Hillerman`s latest thriller, featuring the famous Navajo Tribal Police duo Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, kicks off PerfectBound`s publication of "Tony Hillerman`s Complete Crime Canon" -- all of his novels will be available in coming months as special-features-packed e-books.
-- The Lives of the Muses: National Book Award Finalist Francine Prose explores the complex relationship between the artist and his muse. "Fascinating...gems of concision and insight." (New York Times)
-- Coraline: The e-book edition of Neil Gaiman`s haunting new book for readers of all ages contains half a dozen e-book extras by Gaiman and artist Dave McKean, not available in the print edition.
"The launch of the PerfectBound e-book store further illustrates our mandate to giving full publishing support to each of our e-books, rather than simply releasing them in a digital format," said Jane Friedman, President and CEO of HarperCollins Publishers. "This site offers us a valuable tool to market and promote our authors and their e-books to readers, and provides visitors to perfectbound.com a convenient way to purchase PerfectBound e-books. At the same time, we remain dedicated to working with our retail partners who have been essential to the success of the PerfectBound program."
"Although the e-book market remains modest, we have seen strong growth since the launch of the PerfectBound program a year and a half ago," said David Steinberger, President of Corporate Strategy and International for HarperCollins Publishers. "The PerfectBound store demonstrates our long-term commitment to this growing format."
PerfectBound has published more than 350 titles around the world since the program launched in 2001. It remains the only e-book imprint to publish on a worldwide basis in the English language. PerfectBound e-books are available from dozens of online retailers worldwide.
