ISS Joins with other Software Makers and Major U.S. Food Broker to form VeriSync; Products to Help CPG Manufacturers Solve Supply Chain and Data Accuracy Issues

FRANKLIN, Mass. (December 2, 2002) – Integrated Software Systems‰ (ISS) announced today that its CericomX‘ e-Catalog and e-Business software is providing the foundation for a new online exchange developed to solve critical and costly business and supply chain issues for consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturers.

The exchange is part of a new venture called VeriSync, launched today, which is the first company to offer CPG manufacturers fully integrated, web-based software products that solve data integrity, promotion and deduction management, category management and UCCnet connectivity issues. VeriSync’s products allow for transparent online transactions and solve the critical problem of incorrect product data moving between manufacturers, brokers, and retailers. Incorrect product data plays a major role in significantly slowing business transactions and costs the CPG industry billions of dollars annually.

Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, VeriSync is led by Acosta Sales and Marketing, the largest food broker in the United States. VeriSync chose ISS for its e-catalog and e-business software; Montreal-based software company MEI for its promotion and deduction management software; and Sudden Impact, for its automated category management software. VeriSync will offer ISS products under the trade name ItemLync‘.

"VeriSync has an extensive understanding of the CPG industry and is launching at a time when there is an enormous base of customers with an acknowledged need for these solutions," said Steve Horton, President and CEO of ISS. "Acosta’s powerful industry name will open doors to literally thousands of companies. VeriSync in turn will allow small and medium sized companies to outsource backroom functions and use technology to enhance their supply chain and operations to better compete with larger enterprises."

VeriSync products will be offered to customers in an outsourced, or ASP (application service provider) model, in which they are leased by customers with maintenance of the technology managed by VeriSync. This will provide substantial cost savings to small and medium vendors, removing the need to maintain additional IT systems and software in order to add new capabilities.

"ISS was the choice for VeriSync both for the depth and ease-of-use of its products and also because it clearly was developed by a company that thoroughly understands every aspect of the industry to which it sells," said Paul Price, President of VeriSync. "ISS was one of the early companies championing new electronic standards for the CPG industry and provides powerful solutions that provide real investment return."

Standards for the CPG industry largely have been established by UCCnet, a subsidiary of the Uniform Code Council. The organization’s electronic commerce guidelines help consumer goods companies synchronize item information across their supply chain, providing a non-proprietary standard for the electronic exchange of product information through a single, open repository known as the UCCnet Global Registry.

ISS’s CeriComX software enables companies to easily synchronize product information both with UCCnet and non-UCCnet participants. General Mills, for example, uses ISS’ CeriComX software to synchronize its product information with major supermarket chains through UCCnet, uploading and exchanging critical individual product information such as product name, brand, GTIN (global trade identification number), and dimensions to UCCnet, allowing retailers an accurate view of product information.

VeriSync products also will help manufacturers overcome other critical industry issues such as tracking product pricing, adequately forecasting product demand, and providing promotional data in a timely, seamless and transparent manner. Previously, all of these software applications would have to be purchased from different vendors, without a guarantee they could be integrated or optimized for a given organization.

Pricing and information on ItemLync products are available through VeriSync. ISS will continue to sell and support CeriComX for its customers in addition to its advanced line of web-based software including CeriView‘ (supply chain management/CPFR) and CeriTrax‘ (capital asset and inventory management) applications.
