Burger King rolling out new POS terminals to handle web transactions
With Internet-based e-payments about 10 seconds faster than dial-up, Burger King Corp. is targeting faster credit card transactions by rolling new VeriFone terminals to designed for Internet protocol transactions, VeriFone Inc. reported today.
Burger King is deploying VeriFone’s Omni 3750 payment terminals in all of its more than 600 company-owned restaurants and is offering them to its nearly 8,000 franchise locations. The terminals can handle Internet payment transactions, which take about 4 seconds to process, as well as traditional dial-up transactions, which take about 14 seconds, a VeriFone spokesman says.
Burger King wanted terminals with both payment modes to let it gradually introduced Internet payments among locations that may not be ready for web connections, the spokesman says. Burger King is also working with Chase Merchant Services to handle payment transactions.
The Omni terminals also support additional applications including gift card and store-value card transactions.
