Amazon Q2 sales up 26% while income swings $120 million from red to black
Net sales in the second quarter at Amazon.com Inc. reached $1.39 billion in the second quarter, up 26% from $1.1 billion in Q2 last year, the company reported this week. Net income was $76 million compared with a loss of $43 million a year earlier.
U.S. and Canadian sales grew 13% to $792 million in the quarter. Sales in the U.K., France, Germany and Japan grew 50% to $595 million.
Amazon, No. 1 in Internet Retailer’s Top 300 Guide to online retailers, expects net sales for the entire year to be $6.625 billion to $6.925 billion. Net sales last year were $5.3 billion.
Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $25 and the company said in its earnings statement that it plans to offer such free shipping indefinitely.
