World Leader in Convenient Foods and Beverages To Implement UCCnet across its Entire Product Line

PepsiCo Will Play a Fundamental Role in Enhancing Direct Store Delivery Functionality

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. December 12, 2002 – UCCnet announced today that PepsiCo, a world leader in convenient foods and beverages, has signed a global agreement to use UCCnet’s item registry and data synchronization services for its hundreds of brands distributed across nearly 200 countries and territories.

The agreement enables PepsiCo to standardize product information for its entire product line on UCCnet’s GLOBALregistry™ and synchronize item data with its retail partners. The subscription includes the Pepsi-Cola Company, the world’s second largest beverage company; Tropicana Products, Inc., the world’s largest marketer and producer of branded juices; Frito-Lay Company, the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of snack chips; and Quaker Foods and Beverages, manufacturer and marketer of Gatorade, the world’s largest sports drink, Quaker cereals, and a host of other major food brands.

The subscription allows PepsiCo, a world leader in branded foods and beverages with revenues of about $27 billion, to provide retailers with information for all products it distributes through its distribution networks. PepsiCo will begin implementing UCCnet’s standards-based services in stages during 2003, via Transora, a certified UCCnet alliance partner, beginning with North American retailers.

"PepsiCo has continually been at the forefront of standards adoption, promoting industry efficiency and adding value throughout our supply chain," said Al Carey, Chief Operating Officer of PepsiCo Beverages and Foods, North America. "We are pleased to be a UCCnet subscriber and we look forward to the increased value that item registry and data synchronization services will bring to our trading partners and to PepsiCo."

PepsiCo operates one of the world`s largest distribution systems and is considered a leader in developing more efficient and effective supply chain processes for both Direct Store Delivery (DSD) and warehouse delivered products. The company participates on the Direct Store Delivery (DSD) industry committee to define DSD requirements for data synchronization services through the Global Standards Management Process. Data synchronization within a DSD business model offers a variety of important supply chain efficiencies, including simplified local item authorization, fewer invoice deductions, and reduced time checking products at the retailer’s back door.

"PepsiCo is one the most globally recognized consumer product brands, as well as one of the most notable companies at the forefront of innovation in the consumer goods industry," said Glenn DuBois, Vice President, Business Development, UCCnet. "Their adoption of UCCnet is important to continue building industry use of accurate item information"

A study completed by A.T. Kearney estimated that $40 billion, or 3.5 percent, of total sales lost each year are due to supply chain information inefficiencies. Specifically, the study showed that 30 percent of item data in retail catalogs have errors, which cost between $60 and $80 each and consume 25 minutes of manual cleansing per SKU. Other findings revealed that 60 percent of all invoices generated errors and 43 percent of all invoices resulted in deductions.

To alleviate these costly errors, UCCnet enables registration and synchronization of item information, such as weight and dimensions, by providing a repository for standardized item, location and trading partner data. Suppliers load item, location and trading partner information into the UCCnet GLOBALregistry™. UCCnet checks the data for compliance to industry standards and synchronizes the data with demand side partners, ensuring that all trading partners are using identical, updated, standards-compliant data. In total, there are more than 270 supply and demand side trading partner members of the UCCnet community.
