Software Engineering Consultants Releases GTIN Builder
LANSA Business Partner Solution Simplifies Item Data Preparation
Downers Grove, Ill. — January 31, 2005 — Software Engineering Consultants (SEC), Inc., a LANSA Business Partner based in Overland Park, Kansas, has announced the release of GTIN Builder, a Windows-based tool for Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) management. SEC’s developers engineered GTIN Builder in response to the data aggregation problems their customers were facing when preparing data for publication to the UCCnet GLOBALregistry (now the GS1 Global Registry).
GTIN Builder uses a GUI interface and well-known applications to help users collect data from various sources such as Excel Spreadsheets, Access databases and iSeries databases. After the data is aggregated, users cleanse the data and import it into GTIN Builder, which assigns GTINs based on user definitions. With GTIN Builder, users create GTINs based on existing UPC’s, clone GTINs for similar Items and build multidirectional containments and hierarchies for Eaches, Innerpacks, Cases and Pallets. The tool validates all GTINs before exporting to the host, LANSA’s DataSync Direct product. Once the GTINs are published, users can manage all Item data (ERP and other sources) off-line in a monthly, automated synchronization process.
Built with Visual LANSA, GTIN Builder operates in either stand-alone or server mode and runs on any Windows workstation. For instance, Williams Foods, a specialty foods manufacturer based in Lenexa, KS, implemented GTIN Builder in a server environment, using Citrix. Brian Janes, information management systems director for Williams, said, “SEC’s GTIN Builder was the only tool that allowed us to create GTINs automatically and aggregate existing information from disparate sources.”
Nigel Drinkwater, vice president at SEC, offered the following comments, “In our initial implementations of LANSA DataSync Direct, it became clear that not one organization approaches Global Data Synchronization in the same fashion. However, as we refined our implementation offerings and began to build repetitive processes, it became clear that standardization and automation of GTIN creation was necessary in each case. Also, aggregation of data from multiple, disparate sources was required by all organizations. The creation of GTIN Builder has allowed us to streamline and accelerate each of our UCCnet implementations, keeping costs for us and our clients at reasonable levels.”
SEC offers GTIN Builder at no cost to its UCCnet customers and tier pricing for non-SEC/LANSA customers.
