Walgreens Online Pharmacy Extends Content Agreement With Mayo Clinic Health Information

DEERFIELD, Ill., Dec. 18 -- Walgreen Co. (NYSE: WAG) today announced it has extended and expanded its agreement with Mayo Clinic Health Information to provide health information for Walgreens.com until 2009. The companies originally signed an agreement in 1999. Walgreens.com will continue to be the only online drugstore to post licensable Mayo Clinic Health Information.

"We now can use virtually all of Mayo`s licensed health information on Walgreens.com," said Ron Weinert, Walgreens director of E-commerce. "That means we can offer a larger library of Mayo Clinic Health Information, including more health topics, plus healthy lifestyle centers and self-care tips."

Walgreens and Mayo Clinic Health Information are looking into other ways to extend their relationship. "For example, our prescription bags and labels currently promote our online Health Library featuring Mayo Clinic Health Information, and we`re now selling Mayo Clinic softcover books on Walgreens.com," said Weinert. Mayo`s large array of consumer health titles includes "Mayo Clinic on Healthy Weight," "Mayo Clinic on Arthritis" and "Mayo Clinic on Alzheimer`s Disease."

"MayoClinic.com has licensed its content to Walgreens as a way to help more people live healthier lives," said Dr. Brooks Edwards, medical editor-in- chief and a Mayo Clinic cardiologist. "Walgreens will continue to expand our reach so that more people will have access to reliable answers to their health questions."

Walgreens.com began offering prescription service in 1998 and was relaunched in 1999 as a full-service pharmacy. Today Walgreens remains the only drugstore to fully integrate its retail and online pharmacy operations.

Walgreens.com is part of the Pharmacy Safety Net Walgreens has built for its patients. To ensure patients are getting the most benefit from their prescription medications, Walgreens offers:
* Total integration of all locations, making every Walgreens your Walgreens. All store pharmacies and Walgreens online pharmacy are securely connected so that your prescription information is available wherever there`s a Walgreens, which is particularly important when you`re traveling.
* Personal health history on Walgreens.com. As a registered user, patients can update the same record used by Walgreen pharmacists to include over-the-counter and vitamin supplement products they`re taking or drug allergies that they have.
* Personal Prescription History on Walgreens.com. Registered users can view and print their prescription history in preparation for a doctor`s visit or for tax and insurance purposes.
* Mayo Clinic Health Information on Walgreens.com.
* Anytime Refills. Walgreens allows patients to order refills using automated touch tone service, online ordering at Walgreens.com or by calling 1-800-Walgreens to arrange emergency overnight service to anywhere in the country.
* Automatic refill service. This service ensures patients never run out of maintenance medication by automatically sending a refill request to Walgreens pharmacy computer system three days before patients are scheduled to finish their current supply. Patients are then called and/or emailed that their medication has been filled and is ready for pickup. It`s especially helpful to seniors who are managing several prescriptions at once.
* Multi-language prescription labels. Walgreens is the only pharmacy that can print prescription label instructions in eight different languages, enabling non-English speaking patients to better understand how to take their medicine.
* More 24-hour pharmacies than all other drugstore chains combined. With more than 900 24-hour pharmacies, chances are there`s a Walgreens close by when you need a prescription or anything else late at night.
* The most drive-thru pharmacies nationwide. On bad weather days, Walgreens makes it more convenient to get your prescription at any one of nearly 3,000 drive-thru locations.
* Express Pay, the fastest way to pay. Walgreens can keep your credit card information on file at the pharmacy and will automatically charge it when you pick up your prescription. It`s especially convenient for parents of college students who are away from home or the elderly who have caretakers managing their medication.
* Order status emails. Patients registered on Walgreens.com can receive emails letting them know when their prescription is ready for pickup or if other action is needed.

Walgreen Co. is the nation`s largest drugstore chain with fiscal 2002 sales of $28.7 billion. The company operates 3,954 stores in 43 states and Puerto Rico, in addition to Walgreens Health Initiatives, which provides mail service prescriptions, pharmacy benefits management and other clinical services. Part of Mayo`s mission includes a commitment to serve as a dependable source of health information for the public. Revenue from this activity is used to support Mayo programs.
