ATG ANNOUNCES GENERAL AVAILABILITY OF ATG 6

Significant Enhancements to Integrated Commerce and Portal Solutions; Release Includes New Publishing, Search, and Integration Products

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., - December 20, 2002 - ATG (Art Technology Group, Inc., Nasdaq: ARTG), a leading developer of online CRM applications for commerce, portals, and relationship management, today announced that it has further established its position as a leader in the online CRM market with the delivery of ATG 6.

ATG 6, which will be generally available beginning today, offers significant enhancements across the integrated ATG Commerce, ATG Portal and ATG Relationship Management Platform products and marks the delivery of the new ATG Publishing, ATG Search and ATG Siebel and Documentum Integration modules. The enhancements, upgrades and new modules are all designed to provide the customer with an integrated, robust solution that enables users at all levels of the organization to effectively develop, deploy and modify online CRM initiatives in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible.

ATG Commerce provides a comprehensive online selling solution for building strong relationships with consumers, businesses, and channel partners. ATG Commerce enables companies to automate all aspects of online sales, marketing, and support processes. Companies can increase sales and customer retention rates by providing each customer with a personalized online buying experience. ATG`s unique Scenario Personalization* capabilities provide significant up-selling and cross-selling opportunities, which help companies increase average order size and revenues. ATG Portal provides self-service and collaboration tools that help companies increase productivity among employees and partners, and build more productive relationships with customers. ATG Portal allows companies to proactively deliver information to users rather than merely provide access to information, and Scenario Personalization allows companies to better target the right information to the right individual. By unifying multiple intranets and client sites into one easy-to-manage solution, companies reduce hardware, hosting, and staff costs. Providing a single point of access to content and applications helps ensure that users can find what they are looking for, improving overall service.

Primary to ATG 6 is ATG Publishing, a comprehensive and easy-to-use tool for managing ATG assets. ATG Publishing is specially designed to manage the entire lifecycle of multiple types of content, including eBusiness scenarios created by ATG`s Scenario Personalization. Further, ATG Publishing utilizes a user-friendly interface that allows business teams to enter and manage their own content, enabling an organization to quickly respond to the success of new initiatives or respond instantly to changes in the business environment that require content modification. ATG Publishing simplifies deployment and automates processes for approval, which can speed productivity while at the same time reduce costly errors. Further, by simplifying deployment of ATG assets, ATG helps companies decrease spending on costly IT resources and departmental synchronization efforts.

"ATG is responding to the changes in how businesses buy enterprise software - and thus far the feedback on ATG 6 has been extremely positive," said Bob Burke, president and CEO at ATG. "With ATG 6 we are now able to deliver a single-vendor, pre-integrated solution for marketing, selling and supporting customers online. Rather than having to buy large software systems from a number of vendors and having to incur the costs and risks in integrating these disparate systems, our customers can now buy an integrated solution from ATG, resulting in reduced total cost of ownership, reduced project risk, and shortened time-to-value."

Since mid-August, when ATG began its ATG 6 beta program, a large number of blue chip ATG customers and partners have tested the software, and built applications on the new functionality in ATG 6. Here`s what a select few have to say:

Martha Stewart Omnimedia
"The new functionality in ATG 6 gives us even greater flexibility and control over our site content and decreases maintenance costs while continuing to provide the core capabilities that have allowed us to create one of the Web`s most unique and personalized buying experiences," said Eric Pederson, director of internet development at Martha Stewart Online. "The addition of the publishing module, along with those scheduled for the near future, truly make ATG 6 one of the most robust online CRM products on the market today".

Roche Pharmaceutical
"Roche`s strategy is to provide personal, consistent service to our clients, and our interactive portal powered by ATG on top of Siebel has helped us reinforce our relationships with medical professionals and cost-effectively deliver superior, just-in-time service," explained Antoine Dalleas, head of online solutions at Roche. "We are pleased to see the addition of ATG Siebel Integration to the company`s product family as it will allow us to be even faster and more flexible in further enhancing our customers` service experience."

Pioneer Investments
"ATG Publishing should be a real advantage to us moving forward," said Brian Ballard, vice president Internet architecture and development at Pioneer Investments. "We expect that ATG Publishing will help us automate the management of our interactive tools and resources, while also integrating seamlessly into our native environment."

Acumen Sciences
"We distribute our research to our clients in paper and digital format," said Clifford Cate, director of technology at Acumen Sciences. "The internal research publishing process we use is central to our business. We hope to use ATG Publishing to automate our internal research workflow and electronic distribution via the Web."

The inclusion of ATG Search adds another critical component to a complete online CRM solution. The ability for customers, partners and employees to find the information desired, across multiple data sources and in the context of their specific user experience is directly related to a company`s ability to drive sales, service customers and enhance productivity. Through its OEM relationship with Autonomy, ATG is able to provide these capabilities in ATG Search. Lastly, customers are not required to purchase the ATG Search module - if a customer has a search engine already in place, ATG 6 will seamlessly integrate with that search solution.

"ATG has delivered a robust, fully integrated solution comprised of our unique Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) that integrates unstructured, semi-structured and structured information from multiple repositories through an understanding of the content," said Richard Gaunt, CTO and co-founder of Autonomy, Inc. "With the release of ATG 6 and the new ATG Search module, our joint enterprise customers will benefit from a fully integrated solution that will immediately leverage and complement the functionality of ATG Scenario Personalization and the ATG Portal and ATG Commerce applications."

ATG 6 includes:
* ATG Publishing
* New ATG Integrations for Siebel and Documentum as well as a new Integrations Framework and enhanced Tibco adapter
* ATG Search
* Significant updates to ATG Portal (including Microportals), ATG Commerce and ATG Relationship Management solutions
* Support for J2EE (Java 2, Enterprise Edition) version 1.3 in ATG Dynamo Application Server

ATG continues to enhance ATG 6. Future offerings will include ATG Analytics, which will be sold separately as an add-on product.
