Goal is to Better Service the International Electronic Retailing Community

December 23, 2002 (Arlington, VA) – The Electronic Retailing Association (ERA), a trade association representing the $138 billion electronic retailing industry, recently adopted a plan to expand the association outside of the US, including the addition of a European Board of Directors and several European industry councils.

ERA CEO, Elissa Matulis Myers noted “This evolution is designed to increase value for our ERA international members. It offers our European members new and adapted opportunities to impact, influence and animate the Association, strengthening its capacity to protect and develop the Electronic Retailing Industry around the world. At the end of the day, all achievement is local. This restructuring paves the way for the development of local and regional communities, tightly bound together in a truly international organization.”

ERA’s Executive Director of Europe, Marcel Avargues, will work with ERA European members to implement the following initiatives in 2003:

· Launch three industry councils comprised of European ERA members whose role and mission is to foster the continuing growth of the electronic retailing industry. The initial three councils will be: Europe Electronic Retailers; Broadcasters; and Product Developers-Inventors-Manufacturers. Later additions will be a Service-Telemarketing-Fulfillment-Logistic Council.

· The aforementioned industry councils will nominate their representative(s) to be members of the ERA European Board of Directors. The ERA’s European Board will consist of 6-10 dedicated representatives representing various facets of the electronic retailing industry.

· A European Regulatory and Government Affairs Committee will be immediately created, to work in a synergetic and coordinated way with the US Government Affairs Committee of ERA. This Committee, represented by Marcel Avargues and volunteer ERA members, will develop a coordinated action plan with the ERA affiliated British Television Shopping Association to insure a maximum efficiency in the relations with regulatory and government agencies at the national and European Level. The same policy will apply when needed with future national chapters of members in European countries.
