Neiman Marcus deploys web-based global logistics system

To help control the complexity of sourcing its products globally, Neiman Marcus Group Inc. is deploying a new web-based global logistics system that lets it collaborate with suppliers and freight handlers. "It reduces our costs and complements our vision for logistics control and service improvements," says Jimmy Howell, vice president of transportation and logistics operations.

With its Qiva Global Logistics Control System version 3.1 from San Franciso-based logistics technology firm Qiva, Neiman Marcus is able to centrally manage the large volumes of imported products it purchases for its three retail business units: Neiman Marcus Stores, Neiman Marcus Direct catalog and web site division, and Bergdorf Goodman stores.

The Qiva system is designed to provide visibility throughout Neiman`s import supply chain, enabling it to oversee order management and event management, such as making sure shipments accurately relate to original orders and responding to interruptions in the flow of goods. The system also enables the retailer to electronically integrate its order content with its product catalog.

In addition, the Qiva system also enables Neiman to automate the processing of import audits as well as the filing of customs declarations. "The system aligns well with our long-term business strategies and goals for managing complex global logistic operations," Howell says.
