Leading Java Store Software Solutions Vendor Announces Retail Web Services Direction for 2003
Austin, Texas (January 6, 2003) – Extending their lead in retail technology, 360Commerce has announced its plans to offer retail Web services as part of its 2003 product line-up. Known for its next-generation, Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE™) -based software, its leadership position on standards committees and its high-profile customers, such as The Home Depot, Circuit City and Gap Inc., 360Commerce is uniquely positioned to bring the benefits of Web services to the retail community. A preview of their first enterprise-level application built on Web services will be available at the upcoming National Retail Federation (NRF) Conference in New York, 360Commerce booth# 729.
“360Commerce has an enterprise class, retail-hardened platform from which to evolve,” said Jerry Rightmer, 360Commerce’s CTO. “This is a natural next step for us given our proven commitment and adherence to standards and our use of open programming languages. Web services take ease of integration, enterprise reuse and deployment flexibility to the next level, making it the next competitive edge in retail.”
Analysts are predicting that Web services will become an indispensable part of technology development going forward. Some estimate that Web services adoption will exceed that of the Internet and become equally as pervasive. According to Gartner, enterprises whose IT staffs intend to embrace robust, new programming models should begin to experiment with Web services now, developing pilots for deployment no later than 2003. Enterprises that are choosing to wait will do so at their own expense.
With over ten years of retail development experience, J2EE leadership and years of working with retail industry leaders, 360Commerce understands both retail and retail technology. Based on this knowledge, 360Commerce has woven Java Web services support into the core product architecture, FoundationEE™. The advanced architecture will be utilized in the launching of a new Java Web services-based, enterprise-level application, Central Office. Underscoring their commitment to providing freedom-of-choice, this new application will be piloted with a combination of Java Web services technology from 360Commerce partners: IBM Corporation, Oracle Corporation and Sun Microsystems Inc.
To help retailers take advantage of this technology opportunity, 360Commerce, in conjunction with Sun, has developed a business-level Web services white paper. The paper addresses the subject by breaking it up into concise, easy to understand pieces and demonstrates, specifically, how retailers can benefit. Retailers can obtain a copy of the paper by calling 800.897.8663 or attending a Web services presentation by Rightmer on Monday, January 13, 10 a.m. in the Retail Big Ideas pavilion at the upcoming NRF show.
