CLEVELAND, Ohio — January 9, 2003 — PHD, Inc. has launched direct, Internet-based connectivity with its more than 1,000 customers and suppliers. IPNet Solutions (Newport Beach, CA) and Inovis (Atlanta, GA) have been selected by PHD to facilitate the transition to Internet-based connectivity.
"Although we have been using electronic data interchange for several years to share data with business customers and suppliers through value-added networks (VANS), our first major initiative of the new year is to take advantage of the EDI-Internet solution using AS2 (Applicability Statement 2) protocol," says Dennis Doucherty, chief executive officer, PHD, Inc. "This investment will allow us to leverage the Internet to offer faster data transmission at a measurably reduced cost."
Internet connectivity will create a more robust system for PHD to accommodate peak season handling. In addition, the AS2 standard provides the ability to transport EDI and other data, including FTP and XML, both securely and efficiently.
As a leading distributor of small kitchen appliances and housewares, PHD joins the ranks of several major retailers, including Wal-Mart and Meijer`s, who are aggressively replacing traditional VAN connectivity with AS communication methods.
IPNet Solutions provides software that connects Global 2000 companies and their business partners enabling secure data exchange. Inovis helps organizations build, grow and manage business-to-business communities.
