The Gymboree Corporation Selects Retek Solutions to Support Growth and Streamline Operations

MINNEAPOLIS — Jan. 13, 2003 — Retek Inc. (Nasdaq: RETK) announced today that The Gymboree Corporation (Nasdaq: GYMB), a leading specialty retailer that operates more than 580 stores, selected Retek Merchandising Operations and Retek Integrated Store Operations solutions to help streamline communications between its systems as the company grows its operations.

"Our operations have expanded and, as a result, our current legacy systems lack the integration and flexibility to efficiently handle the increased transaction volume generated by our store growth and multiple channels," said Don Hendricks, vice president of operations and technology at The Gymboree Corporation. "We chose Retek to provide the merchandising operations backbone and in-store operational platform for point-of-sale because they offer the highest level of functionality."

The Retek Merchandising System (RMS) provides retailers a flexible, proven and scalable foundation from which to profitably and efficiently execute core merchandising activities in a global environment across multiple retail channels. Retek Data Warehouse (RDW), a web-based strategic performance analysis solution, melds massive amounts of data from different systems into user-friendly reporting that provides a single view of data. With its flexible and scalable foundation, RDW provides retailers an efficient place to store and analyze key transaction level information.

Retek’s Point-of-Sale (RPOS) solution delivers one of the most powerful, scalable, flexible and stable J2EE point-of-sale solutions available. RPOS offers comprehensive store operation solutions including point-of-sale, labor management, cash management, inventory management and customer management. RPOS adapts to retailers’ business style, operating seamlessly with existing networks, data repositories, hardware and operating systems. The Java-based RPOS architecture allows for customer-specific extensions while staying on an upgrade path and is based on open standards, both technical and retail. It is hardware and operating system independent.

"We are delighted that Gymboree has selected to implement additional Retek solutions after its successful deployment of the Retek Distribution Management solution," said Patrick Bohannon, general manager of Retek’s Mid-Market Strategy. "This is another example of how Retek’s proven, scalable solutions are helping mid-market retailers lower their total cost of ownership and efficiently manage large volumes of retail information, enabling them to grow profitably."
