Q2 online sales up 23.1% vs. year ago, Commerce Department reports

Online sales in the second quarter reached $15.7 billion, up 23.1% from the second quarter a year ago, the Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today.

The bureau also reported that total retail sales were up 7.8% in the quarter to $919 billion.

E-commerce sales were up 0.9% over the first quarter sales while total retail sales were up 10.1% over Q1.

The Commerce Department reports that Internet sales accounted for 1.7% of all retail sales, down from 1.9% in Q1.
