Tiffany & Co. and Saks Inc., two of the most well known luxury gifts retailers, are redesigning their web sites.

Tiffany, No. 98 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, isn’t releasing many details, but the retailer is telling Wall Street analysts the newly redesigned Tiffany.com will debut this fall and in time for the holiday shopping season.

Tiffany.com currently employs large graphics and some rich media. Shoppers can also customize some jewelry such as charm bracelets.

Another luxury goods retailer with a new design is Saks, which operates Saks Fifth Avenue and SaksFifthAvenue.com. Saks, No. 47 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, redesigned its web site with new features that include a new home page, better organized fashion categories and fashion videos. Other enhancements include archived weekly best seller lists and more rich media applications, including pan and zoom tools.

Saks is redesigning its web site to keep up with brisk direct market sales. “The Saks Direct business posted a sales increase of approximately 40% over last year`s second quarter in spite of some disruptions last July as we undertook a major upgrade of the site,” Saks CEO Stephen Sadove told analysts on the company’s recent second quarter earnings call. “We are continually adding new vendors and designers and enhancing the service functionality and editorial content of the site. We expect to continue to drive outsized growth in the direct business for the balance of 2007 and beyond.”

Saks doesn’t break out e-commerce sales. In the second quarter Saks posted a net loss of $24.6 million on sales of $694.1 million vs. a net loss of $51.8 million on revenue of $603.8 million in Q2 2006.
