Online games are far from a game for IAC/InterActive

IAC/InterActive Corp. sees a big growth opportunity in online games.

IAC, No. 26 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide and a stakeholder in online games developer GarageGames.com, is launching InstantAction.com, a web-based video game network.

Using GarageGames.com’s development tools, InstantAction.com will provide original action games through a standard web browser.

InstantAction.com is part of a new game development fund aimed at fostering a new generation of game development for the Internet, says IAC. New GarageGames technology will allow graphically rich, networked games to run in popular web browsers with no download installation. InstantAction.com will also enable easy access to single-player and multiple-player games with highly visual elements, says IAC.

“We`ve been looking at the video game sector for years and it wasn`t until we found GarageGames and their idea for InstantAction.com that we believed IAC could participate in a true Internet innovation in online gaming,” says IAC CEO Barry Diller.

GarageGames.com was founded in 1999 and created the Torque Game Engine, a popular platform for independent game development. GarageGames.com also created Marble Blast Ultra and the team-based action game Tribes.

IAC and GarageGames.com have yet to release details such as pricing and market availability for InstantAction.com.
