ClearCommerce Adds Powerful New Fraud Tools and Expands Payment Coverage

Strengthens Arsenal of Risk Management Technologies to Help Merchants Reduce the Cost of E-commerce Fraud

Austin, TX – January 21, 2003 - ClearCommerce Corporation, the leading provider of risk management and payment processing software for online retail, today announced the availability of ClearCommerce Engine 5.1, which includes a first-of-its-kind automated order Review Assistant, expanded support for Visa’s Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode payer authentication, and a new payment interface to Wells Fargo.

“ClearCommerce is committed to helping merchants reduce the cost of fraud through more effective detection and optimized process efficiency," said Robert J. Lynch, president and CEO of ClearCommerce. “This latest product release strengthens our best-of-breed arsenal of risk management technologies and extends our industry leadership in payment processing for online retail.”

This most recent release of the company’s flagship software suite introduces a new risk management tool, Review Assistant, which enables merchants for the first time to automate portions of the order review process. Review Assistant automatically triggers requests from external data sources to streamline the repetitive and time-consuming manual process currently used by many merchants to verify orders identified as suspicious by front-end screening tools.

Review Assistant for Experian®, the first available third-party service, seamlessly integrates ClearCommerce Risk Management software with Experian’s eSeries Authentication Solutions. Experian’s real-time technology provides straightforward identity verification to authenticate online customers by checking individual data elements against Experian’s extensive database of consumer information. For example, merchants will now be able to automatically verify that the name on the card matches the credit card number, a task in the past that required manual intervention to place a phone call to the card issuer.

Another significant enhancement to the ClearCommerce arsenal of risk management technologies is support for the multiple card association’s payer authentication approaches, including both Verified by Visa and SecureCode from MasterCard. With this latest version of ClearCommerce Payer Authentication version 2.2, merchants have, for the first time, a single common module that transparently supports all available authentication approaches. The 2.2 version of ClearCommerce Payer Authentication also includes support for the specification from Visa, 3DSecure1.0.2. This specification, which is required for merchant charge-back liability shift on ‘attempts’ in April of this year, also adds support for SecureCode, MasterCard International’s wallet-less payer authentication service.

This release of the ClearCommerce Engine expands payment processor coverage with a new interface to Wells Fargo. The interface enables Wells’ merchant customers for the first time to process both authorization and settlement transactions for credit cards and checks directly with the bank.
