cVideo Retail, C-Store, and QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) solutions integrate with POS systems and synchronize transaction data with digital video

San Diego, CA--1/22/2003 -- cVideo, Inc., a leading developer of networked, digital-video security applications, released its suite of point-of-sale (POS) solutions, designed to decrease the $33 billion losses from employee theft, shoplifting, administrative errors and vendor fraud—shrinkage. The product suite includes cVideo Retail, cVideo C-Store, and cVideo QSR. The cVideo solutions empower managers and loss prevention staff to monitor store or restaurant operations remotely, detect personnel mistakes, capture customer purchasing behavior, and supervise employees from a remote location. The POS products leverage cVideo’s existing security technologies, providing a comprehensive solution to retailers, storeowners, and restaurant operators for reducing shrinkage, increasing security, and improving operations. Return on investment is three (3) months or less for most industry segments.

Recognizing the unique needs of the various customer types in the industry, cVideo designed its suite of POS solutions to meet the specific demands of general retail, convenience stores, and quick service restaurants.

"The security concerns of a major retail chain vary greatly from those of a fast food restaurant operator or gas station owner. Being able to draw from a complete suite of digital video applications, cVideo can offer solutions to its customers that are not only tailored to their specific needs but will also give them the necessary capabilities and flexibility to maintain a viable solution far into the future" says Al Tumini, president and CEO of cVideo.

cVideo`s POS solutions (cVideo Retail, cVideo C-Store, cVideo QSR) capture transaction data from the cash register or point-of-sale server and synchronize the data with the corresponding video captured at the checkout area. An authorized security-system user can search for video based on any transaction information that is sent from the POS system to the cVideo equipment. The transaction information is displayed in a window next to the video, which allows the user to compare what the cashier entered into the cash register or POS terminal with what was actually handed to the customer. This results in the effective detection of many different forms of employee theft including fraudulent returns, voids, or sweethearting—when a cashier rings up one item, but hands several items back to the customer. Flagging of transaction events allows the investigator to quickly identify questionable or suspicious events.

cVideo has developed proprietary software applications to interface with various POS systems or cash registers on the market. The interface applications allow the cVideo equipment to read different types of transaction data formats. The applications eliminate the need for costly and very limited third-party hardware interfaces. In addition, the applications offer significantly more functionality and flexibility. When searching based on transaction information, the digital video is displayed instantly, which eliminates the scanning through hours of video. One cVideo system can capture transaction data from multiple cash registers or POS terminals. Offering the smallest storage size per image in the industry, cVideo equipment allows its users to store video for up to a year. Storage requirements can be further optimized through motion-activated recording and built-in CD burners.

With the addition of its POS products, cVideo now offers a complete suite of digital video security solutions.

"Security and loss prevention decision-makers who are looking ahead need to purchase their solutions from a company that not only meets their needs today, but also in the distant future," adds Tumini. "While an organization today may purchase a specific digital video recorder as analog recorder replacement, they may realize tomorrow that this device is too limited and inflexible to allow for Central Station integration or wireless transmission of video. cVideo is one of the very few digital video solution providers that has addressed all of tomorrow’s needs, today."
