Online sales rose 19% for the week ended Aug. 8 to $1.118 billion from $936 million in the comparable week a year ago, comScore Networks Inc. reports. The rise follows a week when year-to-year sales showed no growth.
By comparison, total retail sales rose 9.9% year-to-year for the week ended Aug. 7, according to ShopperTrak’s Retail Sales Estimate. ShopperTrak says that back-to-school sales combined with several sales tax holidays throughout the U.S. drove consumers at an increased pace into retail stores.
Online travel sales for the week ended Aug. 8 rose 6% year-to-year, to $1.123 billion from $1.059 billion, comScore reports.
