Snapfish concept store brings online photo service to retail

Out to give online photo processing services already growing a presence in drugstores and other retail locations some new competition, Snapfish, an online photo service, is out to put the photo processing and sharing services available on Snapfish.com into retail stores. To showcase the idea, it’s opened a concept store in Alexandria, Va., where consumers can, among other services, have free online access to Snapfish.com from store kiosks.

At the kiosks, by accessing Snapfish online, digital camera and phone users can upload photos into a password-protected online album they can use to edit, share and store their photos, in addition to ordering film quality prints on paper. For local customers, options now include retail store pick-up of photo prints they order online from their homes. In addition to print pick-up and processing and online photo sharing and storage via the kiosks, the Snapfish store carries a number of photo products and offers services such as photo restoration.

Besides expanding its online services into retail for the convenience of consumers, the concept store is intended to show retailers how adding online photo services in the store can boost sales and profits for existing photo retail businesses, according to the company. “There are great efficiencies and expanded functionality to be derived for both customers and retailers by joining the best of the retail concept with the leading online service,” says Raj Kapoor, Snapfish president.
