Edgewood, NY-based TechSmart, a provider of asset-recovery solutions for
office technology equipment, has signed a deal to sell reconditioned and
surplus computers on Amazon.com. The equipment will be sold on Amazon’s new
Computer Store which launched at the end of August. The Computer Store will
sell new and used computers and accessories from such manufacturers as Dell,
IBM, Apple and others.
Amazon says the business deal with TechSmart complements its merchandise, as
more consumers are buying PCs online. The online share of total consumer PC
sales is projected to nearly triple within three to five years,
rising from about 10%-15% this year to 30%-40%, says Richard Chin, general
manager of Amazon’s Computer Store. Amazon says it’s among the first
retailers to offer refurbished computers, which sell for hundreds of dollars
less than new models.
TechSmart provides a single-source, complete asset recovery solution for
used and surplus computers from leasing companies, corporations, retailers
and OEMs, including desktop and laptop computers, servers,
printers, copiers, datacomm and networking products. TechSmart audits,
tests, cleans, reconditions and repackages the equipment, which it then
remarkets.
TechSmart markets its products and services through a network of
distribution channels, including eight national sales offices and a
proprietary web site, SmartMart. The company also has deals with uBid and
eBay in addition to the Amazon.com deal.
